Trying to decide where to train in Camden?

You’ve probably noticed two types of gyms popping up everywhere; private studios and independent gyms.

Both have their place. But depending on your goals, mindset, and experience, one might suit you better than the other.

Let’s break it down properly

🏋️‍♂️ Independent Gyms: Autonomy, Energy, Equipment

If you like the idea of having your own space and doing your own thing, an independent gym might be your sweet spot. Here’s why:

1. You get access to better kit

Most independents are packed with specialist equipment you won’t find in big chains or private studios, hack squats, specialty bars, cable stacks, sled tracks. Perfect if your main concern is getting great results and making the most of your time.

2. You can train solo

Training on your own timetable helps build autonomy. You learn what works for your body, how to structure your sessions, and you stop relying on someone telling you what to do all the time.

3. The atmosphere pushes you

There’s something about training around people who want to be there. It’s motivating. You see others working hard, chasing PBs, and suddenly you’re dialled in too.

👎 The trade-off? It can be busy, a bit chaotic at peak times, and if you’re not confident in the gym yet, it might feel intimidating at first.

🧤 Private Studios: Privacy, Focus, Personalisation

If you’re new to training, want a quieter space, or just prefer a more focused environment, a private studio might be more your speed.

1. It’s quieter, calmer, and more private

You'll have access to all the kit. It’s a more controlled, low-distraction environment. Ideal if you want space.

2. It’s highly personalised

Private studios often feel more like a tailored service than just a gym. Coaching is more hands-on. It’s often “white glove”.

3. It’s beginner-friendly

If you’re anxious about getting started or have no clue what to do in the gym, a private studio gives you space to build confidence before diving into a more intense setting.

👎 The downside? You’re dependent on having a coach present. The kit is more limited. And you don’t get the same energy that comes with a busy gym floor.

So... Which Should You Choose?

Go for an independent gym if:

  • You want to train solo and build gym independence

  • You love having a big range of equipment

  • You feed off energy, progress, and atmosphere

Go for a private studio if:

  • You want peace, privacy, and a more exclusive feel

  • You coaching at a slower pace

  • You have a higher budget

Or... Find the Best of Both

I blend both models.

You get the structure, support, and white-glove coaching of a private studio, with access to an independent gym that has everything you need to train hard and build autonomy when you’re ready.

✅ Hands-on coaching when you need it

✅ Freedom to train solo when you want it

✅ A clear plan to help you transition from “I’ve no idea what I’m doing” to “I’ve got this.”
