Tax Benefits: Can You Expense Personal Training Through Your Business?

This is a question I get asked a lot—especially by clients who work in corporate jobs and are trying to be smart with their money.
So, here’s the short answer:No, personal training isn't usually tax-deductible for individuals. But yes, there are ways to use company benefits to pay for it—if you know what to look for.
What the tax man says
HMRC doesn’t see personal training as an allowable expense unless it’s wholly, exclusively, and necessarily for your work. If you're a professional athlete, actor, or fitness model, there might be a case—but for most people, it’s a no-go for tax deductions.
Even if you’re a director of your own company, you can’t usually put your PT sessions through as a business expense without it being seen as a benefit in kind—which means you’ll still end up paying tax on it.
Company benefits and perks
Now this is where things get more interesting.
Some employers offer wellness benefits as part of their perks package—think:
Health & wellness stipends
Lifestyle benefits (like with Ben, Heka, or Juno)
Gym memberships or personal training reimbursement through providers like Perkbox or YuLife
If your company offers these, you can often use them to pay for PT sessions, either in full or part. I’ve had plenty of clients cover their coaching through these platforms.
Don’t see anything like that in your benefits package? It’s worth asking HR. More and more companies are getting on board with this kind of thing—especially if you position it as a way to improve health, energy, and productivity at work (which, let’s be honest, it definitely does).
Summary
Personal training isn’t tax deductible for most people
You can’t usually put it through your Ltd company without tax consequences
BUT you might be able to use company perks or wellness budgets—so check your benefits platform or speak to HR
